![]() You also need to recognize how close the enemy is to you. You really need to make sure you know which route the unit is going to enter the map on, and pay close attention to it, regardless if you're using helos, trucks or APCs. Most players play scared, and as soon as a single Strela or Konkurs originates from the town they'll run and regroup rather than push through with numbers. More likely, you need two groups of two infantry somewhere hidden away from direct fire a manpad or two in the rear, and an ATGM team if you have it. You do not need 16 infantry to hold a town. Where possible - and it's usually possible - use single units. How many times have you seen guys send squads of 4 units, all firing missiles simultaneously at the same unit? WASTE. I can manage the four of you just fine with my nice little front and protected supply lines (see above).Įdit - I want to add one more thing: EFFICIENT USE OF NUMBERS. I've often turned these situations into unit meatgrinders for my enemies, because I'm excellent at setting up a defense-in-depth. You'd be surprised how much a 4 player team will press the final person, thinking that they can't manage. Sometimes it's actually easier for me to play 1v4 (myself v 4), because at least I can set up an integrated defense. Usually, they'll throw away their units early and surrender, exiting the game and shifting points to me. When I play on smaller maps, I assume some of my teammates are going to suck. It's quite easy to put up a spirited fight with protected supply lines if you think local. So, I just pretend that I'm playing in my own little area of the battlefield. While I want my team to win, they aren't my friends and I don't owe them anything. When I play on a huge multiplayer map (10v10), I don't necessarily care about winning. I've learned to come to grips with this and have dealt just fine. I have a couple "air" decks of just CV's and jets (huuuge dogfights), a couple with just tanks and IFVs, the possibilities are truly limitless.Įdit: Keep in mind this is only possible in RD, but can still help if you are just getting into the game and would play the others. :)Īlso, this makes for some fun battles if you get tired of the campaigns or don't have time for MP. At least by then you'll know how to get your infy into cover. Then you move into multiplayer, where nothing makes sense and people are much smarter than the AI. It's great practice, and let's you build custom situations to play against. After a while, you'll be stomping the AI whenever you want. Give them some infantry, maybe some helis, etc., until you get good with counters and vehicle ranges. After you have the basics down, add a few more units to the enemy deck. You'll be able to learn the controls, see how the enemy moves, and generally learn what does what. Start by giving the AI deck a couple command units, and a few tanks. ![]() ![]() The answer to this is to create a custom redfor/blufor deck (whichever you don't want to play as yourself) and limit it to a few units to practice against. It's pretty frustrating when you play a skirmish and have the AI throw a hundred diverse units at you, when you can't even figure out how to move your infantry into cover before they're dead. There is a very easy way to do so in RD's skirmish mode. Forget multiplayer for now, first learn the basics. I know this has been said a lot in all the guides and forums, but you really need to learn the units, and their strengths and weaknesses. This is not a rant, this is just some helpful info.
